The village with real beaches

Every Cinque Terre village has cliffs and colour — only Monterosso has proper sandy beaches, with umbrellas, easy swimming and long seafront walks. It is the largest, flattest and most relaxed of the five, watched over by the stone Giant on the Fegina shore, scented with lemon groves, and beloved by families, beach lovers and anyone who wants the Cinque Terre with a little more ease and space.

4 · Villa Montale — "I Limoni"

Eugenio Montale, Nobel Prize for Literature, spent the summers of his youth in Monterosso — and this coast of lemon groves and dry-stone walls runs through all his poetry. The apartment "I Limoni", in the historic Villa Montale residence with its shared garden, takes its name from one of his most famous poems: staying here means sleeping inside a page of Italian literature, with the scent of lemons to prove it.
