The Vernazza Opera Concerts

A nine-year story of music in the Cinque Terre

Vernazza Opera Concerts is the musical event that turns every Wednesday evening into an unforgettable experience. Founded in 2015 as Vernazza Opera Festival under the artistic direction of Roberto Tommasi and the Associazione La Fenice, the project has grown into one of the most anticipated events on the Riviera.

Since 2025, it has taken on its current name, while preserving the same enthusiasm and professionalism of its origins. Today, under the guidance of Maestro Cesare Goretta and the Associazione Andante Con Moto, the concerts welcome Italian and international artists who take turns performing on the stage of the ancient Oratory of the Santissima Trinità.

In the romantic setting of Vernazza, in the heart of the Cinque Terre, the voices and sounds of opera merge with the magic of the village, creating emotions that remain forever in the heart.

O mio babbino caro

da Gianni Schicchi
Italiano

Testo Originale

O mio babbino caro,
mi piace, è bello, bello;
vo' andare in Porta Rossa
a comperar l'anello!
Sì, sì, ci voglio andare!
E se l'amassi indarno,
andrei sul Ponte Vecchio,
ma per buttarmi in Arno!
Mi struggo e mi tormento!
O Dio, vorrei morir!
Babbo, pietà, pietà!
Babbo, pietà, pietà!

English

Translation

Oh, my dear daddy,
I love him, he is so handsome;
I want to go to Porta Rossa
to buy our wedding ring!

Yes, yes, I want to go there!
And if I loved him in vain,
I would go to the Ponte Vecchio,
only to throw myself into the Arno!

I am tormented, I am in anguish!
Oh God, I wish to die!
Daddy, have pity, have pity!

Non ti scordar di me

romanza · 1935
Italiano

Testo Originale

Translation

The swallows departed
from my cold and sunless land,
seeking springs of violets,
nests of love and happiness.

My little swallow flew away
without leaving me a kiss, without a farewell,
she left. Do not forget me,
my life is bound to you.

I love you more and more,
in my dream it is you who remain.

Do not forget me,
my life is bound to you.
There is always a nest in my heart
for you.

Sola, perduta, abbandonata

da Manon Lescaut
Italiano

Testo Originale

Sola, perduta, abbandonata
in landa desolata!
Orror! Intorno a me s'oscura il ciel.
Ahimè, son sola!
E nel profondo deserto io cado,
strazio crudel, ah, sola abbandonata,
io la deserta donna!

Ah! non voglio morir!
No! non voglio morir!
Tutto dunque è finito.
Terra di pace mi sembrava questa…
Ahi! mia beltà funesta,
ire novelle accende…

No! non voglio morir… amore, aita!

English

Translation

Alone, lost, abandoned
in a desolate land!
Horror! Around me the sky grows dark.
Alas, I am alone!
And into the deep desert I fall,
cruel torment — ah, alone, forsaken,
I, the abandoned woman!

Ah! I do not want to die!
No! I do not want to die!
So everything is over.
A land of peace this seemed to me…
Alas! my fatal beauty
kindles fresh furies…
They sought to tear me from him; and now
all my dreadful past rises again,
and stands alive before my eyes.

Ah! it is stained with blood!
Ah! all is over.
Now I call upon the tomb as a refuge of peace…
No! I do not want to die… my love, help me!

Italiano

Testo Originale

Tu che m'hai preso il cuor,
Tu che m'hai preso il cuor,
e hai serbato il mio amor,
e hai serbato il mio amor.
(Mi hai legato per sempre!)

Sei la gioia, sei la vita,
sei la luce del mio ciel!
Tu che m'hai preso il cuor
e hai serbato il mio amor.

Finché un raggio di vita
mi resta nel cuore,
sarai sempre l'amor
che mi guida e mi strugge,
il mio sogno più bello,
il mio più gran desio.

Tu che mi hai reso felice
nell'amore e nella vita;

and have kept my love,

You are joy, you are life,
you are the light of my sky!
You who have captured my heart
and have kept my love.

As long as a ray of life
remains in my heart,
you will always be the love
that guides me and consumes me,
my most beautiful dream,
my greatest desire.

You who have made me happy
in love and in life;
you who have made me a lover!
My heart is you!

And forever my love will be you.
You who have captured my heart,
you, you have captured my heart!

You are joy, you are life,
you are the light of my sky!
And forever my love will be you.

Un bel dì vedremo

da Madama Butterfly
Italiano

Testo Originale

Un bel dì, vedremo
levarsi un fil di fumo
sull'estremo confin del mare.
E poi la nave appare.
Poi la nave bianca
entra nel porto,
romba il suo saluto.

Vedi? È venuto!
Io non gli scendo incontro. Io no.
e aspetto gran tempo
e non mi pesa la lunga attesa.

E uscito dalla folla cittadina
un uomo, un picciol punto
s'avvia per la collina.
Chi sarà? chi sarà?
E come sarà giunto
che dirà? che dirà?
Chiamerà Butterfly dalla lontana.
Io senza dar risposta
me ne starò nascosta

English

Translation

One fine day we shall see
a thread of smoke arising
on the far horizon of the sea.
And then the ship appears.
Then the white ship
enters the harbour,
thundering its salute.

You see? He has come!
I do not go down to meet him. Not I.
I stay upon the brow of the hill and wait,
and wait a long while,
yet the long wait does not weigh on me.

And from out the crowded city
a man, a tiny speck,
makes his way up the hill.
Who is it? Who is it?
And when he has arrived,
what will he say? What will he say?
He will call "Butterfly" from afar.
And I, without answering,
shall stay hidden,
partly to tease, and partly so as not to die
at our first meeting; and then, a little troubled,
he will call, he will call:
"Little one, dear little wife,
blossom of verbena",
the names he used to give me when he came.

All this will come to pass,
I promise you.
Keep your fear to yourself —
with unshakeable faith I shall await him.

Vissi d'arte

da Tosca
Italiano

Testo Originale

Vissi d'arte, vissi d'amore,
non feci mai male ad anima viva!
Con man furtiva
quante miserie conobbi, aiutai…

Sempre con fé sincera,
la mia preghiera
ai santi tabernacoli salì.
Sempre con fé sincera
diedi fiori agli altar.

Nell'ora del dolore
perché, perché Signore,
perché me ne rimuneri così?

ah, perché me ne rimuneri così?

English

Translation

I lived for art, I lived for love,
I never harmed a living soul!
With a discreet hand
I relieved whatever miseries I knew of…

Always with true faith
my prayer
rose to the holy shrines.
Always with true faith
I gave flowers to the altar.

In this hour of pain,
why, why, oh Lord,
why do you reward me thus?

I gave jewels to the Madonna's mantle,
and offered my song to the stars, to heaven,
which smiled with more beauty.
In this hour of distress,
why, why, oh Lord,
ah, why do you reward me thus?

Pace, pace mio Dio

da La Forza del Destino
Italiano

Testo Originale

Pace, pace, mio Dio!
Cruda sventura m'astringe,
ahimè, a languir;
come il dì primo
da tant'anni dura.
Profondo il mio soffrir.
L'amai, gli è ver!
Ma di beltà e valore
cotanto Iddio l'ornò,
che l'amo ancor.
Né togliermi dal core
l'immagin sua saprò.

Fatalità! Fatalità! Fatalità!
Un delitto disgiunti
n'ha quaggiù!
Alvaro, io t'amo,
e su nel cielo è scritto:
non ti vedrò mai più!
Oh Dio, Dio, fa ch'io muoia;
che la calma può darmi

Translation

Peace, peace, my God!
Cruel misfortune compels me,
alas, to languish;
as on the first day,
so for many years it endures.
Deep is my suffering.
I loved him, it is true!
But God adorned him
with such beauty and valour
that I love him still.
Nor shall I be able to remove
his image from my heart.

Fate! Fate! Fate!
A crime has divided us
here below!
Alvaro, I love you,
and it is written in heaven:
I shall never see you again!
Oh God, God, let me die;
for only death
can give me peace.
