Where ten or twelve of you can actually sleep under one roof, in villages built for two

Check availability for 2027

The Cinque Terre grew vertically on cliffs, so its houses are tall, narrow and small. Homes that sleep more than eight are genuinely rare, and we manage two of them: Villa Tanca (12 guests) and Villa Montale (11 guests), both in Monterosso al Mare, a few minutes apart on foot. Add La Pavona for six and Muin a Ventu for five, and this page is the whole large-house collection, sorted the way you actually choose.

Start here if you are ten or more

The two houses that sleep double figures

Across all five villages, homes for ten or more can be counted on one hand. These are ours, and in July and August they are the first thing to go.

The large living room of Villa Tanca in Monterosso al Mare, with corner windows, several sofas and a decorated terracotta floor

Villa Tanca · Monterosso · Sleeps 12 · 5 bedrooms · 3 bathrooms · AC throughout

Built in 1969 by Franco Tanca, who wanted the sea visible from his own bed, which is why one wall of the villa refuses to line up with the rest. Downstairs a large kitchen, a dining room and an outdoor table with a stone oven and barbecue. Upstairs three doubles, a twin, a triple and a solarium terrace with sun loungers. Air conditioning in every bedroom, and the beach and the main square a few minutes below.

Frescoed ceiling, chandelier and dining table set for eight in the living room of the I Limoni apartment at Villa Montale, Monterosso al Mare

Villa Montale · Monterosso · Sleeps 11 · 5 bedrooms · 3 bathrooms · The poet's house

A residence of 1880 that belonged to Eugenio Montale, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. We rent the second-floor apartment, named I Limoni after his poem. The dining and living room still carries its original frescoes, the balconies look over the park and the sea, and a private portion of the garden comes with tables and chairs for long dinners. Five bedrooms, four doubles and one twin, three bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and an eleventh place in a chair bed. A chef at home or a private cooking class can be arranged in the apartment itself. Read its story.

Worth knowing: the apartment is on the second floor of the villa, so there are stairs.

The thing no booking platform can sell you

Twenty-three people, one village, one team

Villa Tanca and Villa Montale stand minutes apart in Monterosso al Mare. Taken together they hold up to 23 guests, and because we manage both ourselves, one team handles both arrivals, both sets of keys and both stays. Platforms sell one property at a time and cannot hold two houses on the same dates.

For a family reunion, a milestone birthday or a small wedding party, write to our concierge and we will hold both while you count heads.

Smaller groups, same privacy

La Pavona · Monterosso · Sleeps 6 · 3 bedrooms · 3 bathrooms

Three bedrooms and three bathrooms means nobody queues, and a garden with a shaded pergola means nobody stays indoors. In Monterosso, the flattest of the five villages.

Bedroom under the painted vaulted ceiling of the Muin a Ventu medieval tower in Vernazza, with the steep wooden stair and rope handrail leading down

Muin a Ventu · Vernazza · Sleeps 5 · 3 bedrooms · The medieval tower

Built around 1100 AD, with a private garden above the village, 360° sea views from the top and the silhouette that inspired a beloved film. Nine centuries of stories and the most iconic stay in Vernazza, for a group of five who would rather have character than square metres. Read its story.

Before you fall in love with a photograph

Stairs, luggage and where the car goes

No villa in the Cinque Terre has a driveway to the door, and we would rather tell you now than at your arrival. Villa Tanca is reached on foot from the pedestrian tunnel by the station or from the Salita dei Cappuccini, opposite Hotel Pasquale. The climb is short but it is a climb, and the villa is not suitable for guests with reduced mobility. A garage with two paid spaces sits 700 metres away.

Almost everyone arrives by train, which stops in every village. We arrange transfers from the station, from Pisa or from Genoa, and our team meets you at the house: check-in at Villa Tanca is always assisted, never a key in a box.

Monterosso or Vernazza?

Which village suits a group

Monterosso for six and above. It has the only real sand beaches in the Cinque Terre, the flattest streets, the widest choice of restaurants and, not by coincidence, the largest houses. Vernazza is the more photographed village and our home since 1991, but its lanes are steep and its houses are small, so for groups it works when character matters more than space.

Flights first, houses second

How far ahead should you book for 2027?

As soon as your flights are on sale. Most airlines open their schedules around 330 days before departure, so June and July 2027 can already be booked and August opens in early September 2026. Large houses go first for the simple reason that there are so few of them.

For ten or more in July or August, ten to twelve months ahead is normal rather than anxious. May, June and September are warmer than most visitors expect, far quieter, and forgiving if you book later.

Why book here rather than on a platform

What you get when you book direct with us

You deal with the people who hold the keys. Cinque Terre Riviera has been a licensed Italian tour operator since 1991 and has managed these homes directly since 2006, from an office on Via Roma in Vernazza. No platform sits between you and us, which is why the price is lower and the answers come from someone who was inside the house that morning.

  • Free cancellation cover included, only on our official site.
  • More than 1,600 guest reviews, averaging 4.43 out of 5.
  • A welcome gift on arrival, and a local team on the ground for the whole stay.
  • Assisted check-in at the house, with our team present.
  • Transfers, boat trips, cooking classes and a chef at home, arranged by us and not resold.
  • Two or more houses held together for one large group, which no platform can do.

In short

Which one is yours?

Ten to twelve of you: Villa Tanca for twelve, or Villa Montale for eleven.
Up to twenty-three: both houses together, in the same village.
Eight with three bathrooms: La Pavona, steps from the sand.
Five who want the story: Muin a Ventu, the medieval tower.
Still counting heads? Tell our concierge your dates and your number, and we will tell you honestly what fits.
