How to get to the Cinque Terre by car

Yet, from this point of view, the Cinque Terre represent a unique, since here the car is often discouraged. The steep hills by the sea, and the narrow, winding streets make the driving experience not only challenging, but also less convenient than other transport options such as the train or ferry.

However, if you still want to explore these wonders by car, here are some useful directions to reach each village in the Cinque Terre:

To get to Riomaggiore, the first of the five villages, it is advisable to exit at the A12 Genova-Livorno or A15 Parma-La Spezia motorway at the ‘La Spezia-Santo Stefano Magra’ toll booth. From there, follow the signs to the city center and then continue along the waterfront in the direction of Cinque Terre-Portovenere. Riomaggiore is therefore about 12 km from the Spezia. Finding parking can be difficult, so it is advisable to arrive early, especially during crowded periods.

Continuing along the scenic road SS 370, you arrive at Manarola, about 14 km from the Spezia. Here too, parking can be limited, so it is advisable to plan in advance, especially during the summer season.

To reach Corniglia, the third village, you face a narrow road full of steep curves, but with a breathtaking view. Corniglia is about 25 km from the Spezia and the parking along the road is as always limited.
